Why shoulder season is the perfect time to visit Greece
Jetsetters flock to sun-drenched Mykonos during the summer, but the travel period between peak and off-peak months known as ‘shoulder season’ is another glorious time to visit. Whether your clients are craving a last-minute escape this September and October, or planning a spring Greek getaway in 2024, there are many reasons why travelling to Mykonos outside of high season is a good idea.
Mykonos begins to open to tourists following the Easter period, where temperatures hover around the mid-twenties. Sunny but not humid, these climes are perfect for exploring the island without working up a sweat. Your clients can get out into the countryside to see blankets of wildflowers, swim in the refreshing sea and explore Mykonos Town’s Cycladic maze of houses, museums, and boutiques. During these quieter months they’ll find a seat in the top tavernas too, without having to book. For glamorous front-row seats to the thrill of Mykonos Town, the Myconian Collection has three distinctive properties to choose from: Myconian Korali, Myconian Kyma and Myconian Naia.
Late spring and early autumn are the best times to visit the rich array of historical sights. A must-see are the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ruins on the uninhabited sister isle of Delos, just 30 minutes away by boat. Guests staying at any of the Myconian Collection hotels can visit the island in style on board a luxurious yacht or traditional boat from their extensive fleet – champagne and canapés included. After a dose of culture, they’ll no doubt want to extend their nautical getaway to remote secret beaches and coves, as well as the neighbouring islands of Santorini, Naxos and Tinos.
September finds the Aegean Sea at its warmest. From the countless sandy bays, Elia is one of the best on the island and welcomes sun-seekers right through to the end of October. Famed for its fine sand and crystal water, Elia is home to Utopia Relais & Châteaux, Avaton Design Hotel, the luxurious Myconian Villa Collection, the new Panoptis Escape as well as the Imperial and Royal resorts – both proud members of Leading Hotels of the World.
Further south, Myconian Ambassador perches over the beautiful bay of Platis Gialos – the pearl in a string of famous beaches that include the ultra-glamorous Psarou, Agia Anna and Paranga. Another hotspot for your clients’ sun-sea-and-sand list is Ornos Beach. By September and October, the sea has been warming all summer long and there’s still plenty of gorgeous sunshine to enjoy. Ornos is prized for its natural beauty and safe swimming experience, plus it’s home to the collection’s latest property Myconian O.
Whichever month your clients decide to visit, Mykonos’ unique atmosphere and natural beauty will no doubt have them returning year after year.
